Iran says it can reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the United States accepts its demands, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Monday, 2 November. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Ismaïl Baghaï presented the proposal as a sign of Tehran’s goodwill.
Iran had previously mentioned a one-week timeframe. Baghaï also said security could be restored in the strait and negotiations resumed quickly if Iran’s demands were met.
Messages between Tehran and Washington continue to be exchanged through mediators, the spokesman said. On 1 November, Iran warned that a new war with the United States would last longer, amid talks between the two countries.
