Negotiations between the United States and Iran appear deadlocked as fighting intensifies in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Tehran says it is preparing for a prolonged conflict that would be difficult to control, while Donald Trump disputes the continuation of the ceasefire, according to L’essentiel.
Iran warned on Sunday that a new war with the United States could last longer than the previous conflict, as negotiations between Washington and Tehran appeared to be at an impasse. A resumption of hostilities could escape the control of US President Donald Trump, who would not be able to determine its duration or the conditions for its end, said Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia, quoted by Iranian state television.
Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States still had to «deal with» one or two targets in Iran and threatened to strike within ten minutes, L’essentiel reports. The United States and Iran had signed a memorandum of understanding on 17 June intended to end the conflict triggered by US-Israeli strikes on 28 February, but the US president has since said repeatedly that the ceasefire was over because of Iranian attacks on ships.
The Iranian threat comes after Donald Trump’s new threats against Iran. It follows a warning from Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, who had promised a geographically unlimited response against the United States.
