Trump grants visa to mother of Ghanaian teenager killed in New York

Donald Trump has agreed to immediately grant a visa to Doris Gyamfi, the Ghanaian mother of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old teenager shot dead in New York. The authorisation is intended to allow her to travel to the United States to see her son’s body, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced, according to Punch.

US President Donald Trump has agreed to grant an immediate visa to Doris Gyamfi, the mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, who was shot dead in New York. The decision will allow her to travel to the United States to see her son’s body and attend his funeral, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on Saturday, according to Punch.

Javits Frimpong was killed on Thursday at about 9.30am while he was going to school near Crotona Park in the Bronx. Police took him to St Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An investigation is under way and three boys aged between 16 and 18 are being sought in connection with the case, although no arrests have yet been announced, according to Punch.

The teenager’s father, Thomas Frimpong, said his son had previously told him about repeated bullying at DreamYard Preparatory School. Two pupils had been suspended after an altercation involving Javits, but investigators have not established whether the victim was specifically targeted, Punch reports.

The visa was granted after the Ghanaian teenager was shot dead in New York, a death announced on 30 October. The following day, Morayo Brown urged parents to remain vigilant after the death.
