Lesotho marathon runner Kamohelo Mofolo is set to start the New York City Marathon in the United States, his first major international race over 42.2 kilometres. Aged 21, he finished 11th in his first marathon, in Cape Town in May, in 2 hours 8 minutes 50 seconds, reports Sunday Express.
Lesotho marathon runner Kamohelo Mofolo will compete in the New York City Marathon in the United States on Sunday, his first major international race over the distance, according to Sunday Express. The runner, who turns 21 on Saturday 31 October, is targeting a top-five finish after arriving in the United States on 24 October.
Mofolo has competed in just one marathon before, in Cape Town in May, where he finished 11th in 2 hours 8 minutes 50 seconds. He then set Lesotho’s national 10,000-metre record at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, clocking 28 minutes 1.00 seconds to finish ninth, according to Sunday Express.
Coached by American James McKirdy, the young athlete believes his preparations have put him in a position to target a top-10 finish, or even the top five, on the New York course. He also finished 13th in the 5,000 metres in Glasgow in 13 minutes 34.02 seconds, in his first appearance for Lesotho at an international multi-sport Games.
