Orlando Pirates extended their dominance over Kaizer Chiefs in the 186th Soweto derby, played at Johannesburg's FNB Stadium on 31 October 2026, Business Day reports, while Sowetan notes that it was the club's seventh consecutive league victory. Thierry Henry, the former France international and Arsenal figure, attended the Betway Premiership match, according to Business Day and Sowetan.

This victory takes Orlando Pirates's number of consecutive league wins to seven, under coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. The result also puts pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns, according to Sowetan.

Orlando Pirates improved markedly after the break, following a first half in which Kaizer Chiefs had created several chances. The Chiefs equalised after a mistake by goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, but Pirates regained the lead following a quick attack finished by Thapelo Mokobodi and Tshepang Moremi, Sowetan reports.

The newspaper notes that Pirates could have extended their lead further after the break, but missed several chances. A supporter also entered the pitch in the closing minutes. For Kaizer Chiefs, coach Fernando da Cruz must now find greater consistency, with the team behind AmaZulu and Milford FC in the standings and targeting at least third place to return to the Confederation Cup.

Pirates' squad depth will be put to the test in the coming months, with the Champions League, the Carling Knockout Cup, the Nedbank Cup and the defence of their league title, according to Sowetan.
