South African businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala accuses his former lawyer, Bronwynne Forbay, of dictating answers during his testimony before a parliamentary committee on policing, IOL reports. In a draft affidavit, he claims she asked him to withhold information about his relationship with Shadrack Sibiya, a former deputy national police commissioner.

Matlala also claims that Forbay had him give an inaccurate account of a visit to Sibiya’s home. He says that, during breaks in the committee’s proceedings, his lawyer communicated with Sibiya and guided his answers in light of questions to come. The allegations appear in a draft affidavit and have not been independently established.

Forbay firmly rejects the allegations, calling them “false” and “unfounded”. The draft affidavit does not establish that a member of the committee passed questions to Sibiya.

The allegations about the preparation of the testimony come amid developments in the Sibiya case. On 20 October 2026, South African courts refused Shadrack Sibiya bail.
