Petersen plays down Chiefs’ eight-point gap before Soweto derby

Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen says the eight-point gap to Orlando Pirates will not determine the season’s outcome ahead of the 186th Soweto derby. The match is due to be played on Saturday at FNB Stadium, with Chiefs fifth and Pirates second, according to TimesLIVE.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and captain Brandon Petersen says the eight-point gap between his team and Orlando Pirates will not affect his approach ahead of the 186th Soweto derby, scheduled for Saturday 31 October at FNB Stadium. Chiefs are fifth with 14 points, according to TimesLIVE.

A win would allow Kaizer Chiefs to reduce the gap to Orlando Pirates, who are second in the South African league, eight points ahead and with a game in hand on leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Petersen believes, however, that the season is long enough for his team to get back into contention.

The Chiefs captain also rejected the idea that recent criticism could define him. He came under fire after several errors contributed to disappointing results, but says the comments do not call his value as a player into question. The match will be the 186th Soweto derby, following Orlando Pirates’ win over Milford on 28 October.
