Lesotho coach Bob Mafoso has reported a decline in his players’ fitness ahead of two 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Gabon. About 80% recorded a Bronco Test time of 4 minutes 52 seconds, up from 4 minutes 28 seconds, according to the team’s assessments.
Lesotho’s locally based national team players have seen their fitness decline ahead of their next two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon. In Tuesday’s Bronco Test, about 80% of players recorded a time of 4 minutes 52 seconds, compared with 4 minutes 28 seconds in their previous assessment, Likuena coach Bob Mafoso told the Lesotho Times.
The coach also said their strength levels were inadequate, but believes he has three weeks to improve their preparation before the matches. The locally based players began a non-residential training camp on Monday with medical examinations and fitness assessments, before joining a residential camp the following week. Lesotho need to get back on track after losing 2-1 to Niger and 2-0 to Morocco in their first two qualifying matches.
The assessments come after Lesotho’s 2-1 defeat to Niger on 27 September, in the opening round of their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
