Bruno Fernandes will remain Manchester United captain despite being dropped to the bench during the 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth in the English league. Manager Michael Carrick says the Portuguese midfielder remains fully committed and important to the team ahead of the trip to Chelsea, according to Business Day Nigeria.
Bruno Fernandes will remain Manchester United captain, despite being replaced by the Portuguese player at the start of the 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth, the English club’s manager, Michael Carrick, said, as quoted by Business Day Nigeria. The Portuguese midfielder had been left out of the starting XI after criticising his manager’s tactical choices during the 4-1 defeat by Como in the Champions League.
Michael Carrick and Bruno Fernandes held talks on Tuesday at the Carrington training ground to clarify their disagreement. The manager, who is due to remain in charge for Manchester United’s trip to Chelsea on Saturday, said Fernandes remained a central player for the team and was fully committed to turning the club’s situation around. His starting against Chelsea is nevertheless not guaranteed.
The position comes after Michael Carrick was retained as Manchester United manager, announced on 27 October following the defeat by Bournemouth. It extends tensions surrounding the manager and captain, already raised in the article on Carragher’s criticism of Carrick, published on 26 October.
