Bayern Munich beat second-division side Magdeburg 6-1 on Wednesday 28 October in the last 32 of the German Cup, despite Harry Kane’s absence. The England striker, winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or, remained on the bench for the entire match, Vanguard reports.
Michael Olise scored twice and provided an assist for Ismael Saibari, who also found the net. Alphonso Davies, Nathaniel Brown and young David Santos Daiber completed Bayern’s scoring. Mateusz Zukowski had equalised for Magdeburg after Olise opened the scoring.
Kane received a guard of honour from his team-mates before the match, two days after his award in London. Olise converted a second-half penalty, then smiled and pointed towards the England striker, the team’s usual penalty taker. Bayern may rest their top scorer ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund.
Manager Vincent Kompany, who was hospitalised after collapsing at training on Friday, left hospital before the match. Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen beat Nuremberg 5-2 after trailing by two goals, while Stuttgart won 1-0 at Paderborn thanks to a goal by Deniz Undav in the 90th minute.
The guard of honour for Kane had been reported during Bayern’s previous match, on 28 October, in an article about the tribute.
