Former Germany international Lothar Matthäus believes the Ballon d’Or won by Harry Kane could persuade the England striker to extend his contract at Bayern Munich. Kane, who joined in 2023, is currently negotiating a new deal with the German club, TimesLIVE reports.

The Ballon d’Or won by Harry Kane could persuade the England striker to extend his contract with Bayern Munich, former Germany captain and 1990 winner of the trophy Lothar Matthäus said on Wednesday. “I think Harry will sign his contract for the next two or three years,” he said during a meeting with online media.

Kane, who joined Bayern in 2023 from Tottenham for €100 million, is in discussions with the German club over a new contract. He scored 61 goals in 51 matches last season, helping the team win the Bundesliga and German Cup double, and has since won two Bundesliga titles, according to Reuters. Matthäus added that the extension would depend more on the relationship between the player and the club than on any potential bonus linked to the trophy.

Lothar Matthäus’s statement came the day after the publication about the Ballon d’Or won by Harry Kane, on 27 October 2026. Kane later attributed the award to his move to Bayern, announced in an article published the same day.
