Former Burkina Faso international Madou Dossama believes Harry Kane’s 73 goals in 65 matches outweighed Kylian Mbappé’s 58 goals in the 2026 Ballon d’Or vote. He also highlights the English striker’s consistency and team performances with Bayern Munich, in an analysis published by Africatopsports.

Former Burkina Faso international and football pundit Madou Dossama explains Harry Kane’s 2026 Ballon d’Or win by his attacking efficiency, consistency and trophies with Bayern Munich. The English striker scored 73 goals in 65 matches, including 61 for the German club and 12 for England, as well as providing eight assists, according to an analysis published by Africatopsports.

Kylian Mbappé scored 58 goals and provided 13 assists over the season being compared. Madou Dossama acknowledges that the Frenchman performed well in the league and Champions League, but considers that the gap in goals favoured Kane in the assessment of individual performances.

The Burkinabè pundit also points to Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga title, while Mbappé’s Real Madrid won no major trophy during the season in question. He adds that Kane reached the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup with England, while defending an assessment of the entire season rather than that competition alone, Africatopsports reports.

The analysis follows Harry Kane’s triumph ahead of Mbappé, announced on 26 October. The following day, Mbappé said Kane deserved the 2026 award, while recognising the value of the honour given to the Englishman.

Update, 27 October 2026: Harry Kane said receiving the 2026 Ballon d’Or from Ronaldo Nazário, one of his childhood role models, made the ceremony particularly memorable. Read: Harry Kane thanks Ronaldo after winning the Ballon d’Or.
