The new president of the Guinean Football Federation, Mamadi Doumbouya, has announced plans to host the Africa Cup of Nations in Guinea in 2036 or 2039. He also promised governance reforms, more transparent club subsidies and a first assessment in 100 days, according to Guinee7.

The new president of the Guinean Football Federation (Feguifoot), Mamadi Doumbouya, announced on Tuesday 27 October that Guinea would seek to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2036 or 2039, Guinee7 reports. Elected with 21 votes, he also promised a first assessment of his term in 100 days.

Doumbouya announced a review of the federation’s operations, with its findings to be made public, as well as subsidies for clubs that he wants to be transparent, fair and regular. He listed training, competitions and the development of women’s football among his priorities. However, he said he was promising neither a trophy nor the award of the Africa Cup of Nations, but work, a method and results for which he would be accountable.

The new leader called on Guinea’s football stakeholders to unite after the election and praised his opponents, including Antonio Souaré, Ibrahima Kassory Kaba and Bachir Haïdara. His election to a four-year term at the head of Feguifoot was announced on 27 October in an earlier article.
