Guinean Sports Minister Cellou Baldé accompanied a CAF assessment mission to Kansoyah on 22 October, where Guinea plans a 60,000-seat Olympic stadium. The mission is examining the country’s bid to host AFCON 2032 or 2036, according to VisionGuinee.
Guinea’s Sports Minister, Cellou Baldé, presented the site in Kansoyah, near Conakry, where a 60,000-seat Olympic stadium is to be built for a possible Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in 2032 or 2036. He accompanied experts from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on an assessment visit on Thursday 22 October, Visionguinee reported.
The CAF mission and audit firm PwC stayed in Conakry last week to examine Guinea’s bid to host the competition. Cellou Baldé said the visit to Kansoyah was devoted to technical assessments. He defended hosting AFCON as a socioeconomic development project and said it was “no longer acceptable” that Guinea should be unable to host the continent’s main competition, 68 years after its independence.
The move is part of Guinea’s desire to present Conakry as a host for sporting and cultural events, following its bid to organise the 2031 Francophonie Games, submitted on 12 September 2026.
