After Lamine Yamal finished third in the 2026 Ballon d’Or, his uncle Abdul disputed Harry Kane’s win and said his nephew deserved the award more. He also suggested that the FC Barcelona player’s youth may have influenced the vote, according to remarks reported by Cadena SER.

Abdul, Lamine Yamal’s uncle, disputed Harry Kane’s 2026 Ballon d’Or win, saying the FC Barcelona winger should have won. Interviewed by Spanish radio station Cadena SER, he said his nephew was “the best player in the world” and criticised the voters’ choice, after Yamal finished third behind Kane and Kylian Mbappé.

Abdul also suggested Yamal’s age may have counted against him, as voters might have thought he would have other chances to win the trophy. He contrasted Kane’s role as a goalscorer with his nephew’s style of play, and predicted that the young Barcelona player would win five Ballon d’Or awards. Lamine Yamal also received the Kopa Trophy for best young player.

The protest comes the day after Harry Kane’s 2026 Ballon d’Or win, announced on 26 October. On the same day, France Football withdrew three articles announcing winners, according to an earlier publication by the outlet.
