Harry Kane, the English striker for Bayern Munich, thanked his family, teammates, staff and supporters after receiving the 2026 Ballon d’Or in London on Monday evening. “It wouldn’t have been possible without you,” he said in a video posted on his X account, according to South African media outlet Isolezwe.
Kane described the honour as an “incredible feeling” and congratulated the other award winners. He finished ahead of French Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé, in second place, and Spanish Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, in third. Spain’s Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or.
The ceremony also named Lamine Yamal and Vicky López the best young players, and Unai Simón and Cata Coll the best goalkeepers. Harry Kane received the Gerd Müller Trophy for the best male goalscorer, while Charlyn Corral was honoured in the women’s category. The Socrates Award, for humanitarian work, went to Bukayo Saka.
Kane’s win was announced on 26 October, after he also received the award for best male goalscorer at the ceremony. The honours had been reported in articles on Harry Kane winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or and the best male goalscorer award.
