Lamine Yamal’s paternal grandmother, Fátima, 73, will not travel to London for the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony and will follow it from Mataró, near Barcelona. The footballer’s family has arranged to travel by private plane, reports La Vanguardia, cited by Bladi.
Lamine Yamal’s paternal grandmother, Fátima, 73, will stay in Mataró, near Barcelona, while the young footballer prepares for the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London this Monday, 26 October. She will follow the evening from the home her grandson bought for her, according to Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, cited by Bladi.
Fátima has chosen to stay in her neighbourhood, where she lives surrounded by neighbours she has known for several decades. She still prepares meals each day for her son Abdul’s three children and asks him to set up the television channel when she wants to watch Lamine Yamal play. Abdul and his wife also run the family bar, LY 304, which opened in Rocafonda in October 2024, according to La Vanguardia.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place at the London Palladium. Lamine Yamal is due to spend the night in London before returning on Tuesday to Barcelona, where his grandmother and uncle will be waiting for him. This family presence at a distance follows the announcement on 22 October that his relatives would travel to London as part of preparations for the ceremony.
