Harry Kane says his move to Bayern Munich, viewed by some as a gamble, helped him step up and win the Ballon d’Or. The England captain has scored 156 goals in 159 appearances for the German club, according to AFP.
Harry Kane says his move from Tottenham to Bayern Munich played a decisive role in winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The English striker says the change, made in 2023 for an initially reported fee of 100 million euros, helped him improve alongside his new teammates, according to an interview with AFP on Monday.
Kane has scored 156 goals in 159 appearances for the German club, won two Bundesliga titles and lifted the German Cup last season. He also scored in ten consecutive Champions League matches before the London gala where he received the trophy.
“There’s no chance Harry Kane could have won the Ballon d’Or if he had been playing at Tottenham,” said Jamie Carragher, a former England defender turned pundit. Bayern Munich, one of Europe’s leading clubs, regularly gives Kane the chance to play in the Champions League and face the best teams.
Kane’s triumph followed his victory over Kylian Mbappé in the 2026 Ballon d’Or, announced on 26 October. The English striker also won the men’s top scorer award at the same ceremony.
