Supporters of AS Vita Club, a football club from Kinshasa, demonstrated on Tuesday 27 October in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo against what they denounced as political interference in the management of their team. They accused Sports and Leisure Minister Didier Budimbu of intervening in the club’s internal affairs and demanded respect for its statutes.
The demonstrators, known as the “Bana VEA”, called on President Félix Tshisekedi to address the institutional crisis affecting the club. Their mobilisation followed the resignation of Flory Mapamboli, Vita Club’s former interim president, who had denounced political interference and internal tensions detrimental to the team’s functioning.
