The Coalition Article 64 wants to meet separately with Félix Tshisekedi, president of the DRC, and his predecessor Joseph Kabila to seek a political solution to the national crisis. Meeting in Rome from 25 to 27 October, it maintains its opposition to any constitutional change favouring a third term, reports Lepotentiel.
The Coalition Article 64 (C64), a Congolese political movement, wants to meet separately with President Félix Tshisekedi and his predecessor Joseph Kabila to seek a way out of the political and security crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The decision was taken at the end of a conclave held in Rome from 25 to 27 October, according to Lepotentiel.
The coalition is calling for an inclusive national dialogue linked to the diplomatic processes in Doha and Washington, as well as a verifiable ceasefire and the protection of civilians. It believes that no military solution can end the crisis and is calling for the resumption of African mediation led by the ECC and CENCO, two Congolese religious organisations.
C64 rejects any constitutional change that would pave the way for a third term, any postponement of the elections scheduled for 2028 and any seizure of power by force. It says a parliamentary majority cannot act outside the Constitution, following the adoption on 23 October of a text setting out the conditions for organising a referendum.
The initiative comes amid a series of calls for dialogue in the DRC. On 17 October, Bernadette Tokwaulu proposed a pre-dialogue in the DRC, then C64 called for a national dialogue in Europe on 25 October.
