Congolese Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka announced in Maniema the opening of National Road 2 on the routes serving Kasongo and Samba, as well as the construction of a bridge at Kasongo-Rive, according to the newspaper Lepotentiel. The programme also includes two solar power plants, of 3 megawatts in Kindu and 2 megawatts in Kasongo.

The government also plans 50 kilometres of urban roads in Kindu. The works are intended to improve transport and trade between the localities concerned, while the power plants are expected to strengthen supply to households, businesses and public services, according to Lepotentiel.

In her speech in Kindu, Judith Suminwa Tuluka urged residents of Maniema to remain vigilant in the face of the security situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to defend the constitutional order. The announcement comes a day after a 3 MWp solar power plant was inaugurated in Kindu, an installation with the same capacity as that announced for the city under the new programme.
