In Kindu, in Maniema province, DR Congo, vendors are still occupying roads and pedestrian areas, disrupting traffic despite municipal bans. A tricycle collided with a lorry on Avenue du Bac last Wednesday, but the circumstances and toll have not been established, reports Le Potentiel.

In Kindu, in eastern DR Congo, vendors continue to set up their stalls on roads and pavements, particularly at the central market, reports Le Potentiel. This obstructs vehicle traffic and sometimes forces pedestrians to walk in the middle of the road.

The town hall reiterated the ban on street trading in August 2024. In September 2026, mayor Augustin Atibu Mulamba threatened offenders with the seizure of their goods and fines under the rules in force.

On Wednesday 21 October, a tricycle collided with a heavy goods vehicle on Avenue du Bac, according to information gathered locally by Le Potentiel. The circumstances of the accident have not been established, but the collision has revived concerns about vendors, pedestrians and vehicles sharing congested roads.

Congolese Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka is expected in Kindu on 25 October 2026. Clearing public spaces is an issue for traffic and safety during the visit, while stalls remain set up on several main roads.
