The Industrial Promotion Fund (FPI) of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has released $30 million for the Mbombo hydroelectric dam, out of a total announced investment of $120 million. The project’s restart was marked by a visit to Kananga by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka on 27 October 2026, Lepotentiel reports.
Located in Tshibambula, in the Nganza municipality, the facility is expected to generate 20 megawatts. Angélique International Limited is carrying out the work under the supervision of the National Agency for Electrification and Energy Services in Rural and Peri-Urban Areas (ANSER). A further $90 million must be raised to complete the project’s funding.
The dam is intended to improve electricity supply to Kananga and its surroundings, where households and economic activity are affected by energy shortages, according to Lepotentiel.
The restart comes after the Prime Minister announced road projects and solar power plants in Maniema province on 27 October (projects announced in Maniema). The day before, the DRC had also prepared the financing of the Grand Inga dam with Washington (financing for the Grand Inga dam).
