After deleting a post in which he described himself as the “true president-elect”, Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro resumed his electoral fraud accusations and announced that he would lead the opposition from the United States. He had travelled there after losing to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, according to the Daily Post Nigeria.
Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro announced on Wednesday that he would lead the opposition from the United States, after saying in a post that he was Brazil's “true president-elect”. He then deleted the message and reposted it on X, describing himself as the “leader of Brazil”, the Daily Post reports.
Flávio Bolsonaro accused President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his government of stealing the election, without presenting evidence in the statements reported by the media. He also accused the Supreme Court, saying it had interfered in the electoral process and questioning the gap of more than 10 million votes between the two rounds.
The senator said he had not fled Brazil and described his departure as a choice made “for the good of Brazil”. He said he had committed no crime and described the proceedings against him as political persecution. He called on Brazilian senators, governors and parliamentarians to oppose what he presented as this persecution.
The position comes after Lula's re-election, when he won 51.75% of the vote on 26 October, according to the results reported in the announcement of his victory. The senator had also been described as resigned after his defeat by an adviser on 27 October, according to this testimony.
