Flávio Bolsonaro, a Brazilian senator defeated in the presidential election, arrived near Miami after a private flight from Argentina with a stop in Guayaquil, Ecuador. AFP witnessed his arrival in the United States on Wednesday and also reports that footage shows him leaving the aircraft with family members.

Flávio Bolsonaro, a Brazilian senator and defeated presidential candidate, landed near Miami, Florida, on Wednesday after a private flight from Argentina via Ecuador, according to AFP and AFPTV footage. He got off the plane with members of his family after it landed in the United States.

The aircraft, chartered by Baires Fly S.A., took off from Puerto Iguazú in north-eastern Argentina before landing in Guayaquil, where it refuelled. Argentina’s National Directorate of Migration had said Flávio Bolsonaro crossed the border with valid documents, while Donald Trump had said he would grant him a visa to enter the United States.

His arrival in Florida comes after Brazilian police cancelled the senator’s passports and as he continues to contest his defeat by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, re-elected president of Brazil on Sunday. It follows Flávio Bolsonaro’s challenge to the election and the cancellation of his passports.
