The Confederation of African Football confirmed on 27 October that Conakry’s 28 September Stadium had been approved by CAF, following work carried out by GUICOPRES BTP. The venue can now host African competitions after addressing reservations raised during its provisional approval, according to CAF.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on 27 October 2026 that Conakry’s 28 September Stadium had been approved to host its competitions. The Guinean venue is included on the list of approved stadiums published by the continental body, after provisional approval in category 3 was granted on 15 August, according to CAF, as cited by VisionGuinee.
GUICOPRES BTP, a subsidiary of Groupe GUICOPRES responsible for the works, addressed the reservations raised during the temporary authorisation, which was valid only for September. The upgrade covered the natural pitch, stands, boxes, VIP areas, and facilities for the media and press conferences.
The stadium has already hosted the Champions League match between Horoya AC and JS Saoura, as well as the Confederation Cup match between Hafia FC and Mauritania’s AS Douanes. On 1 October, the Guinea national team also faced Kenya there in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, in its first home match since June 2022.
The approval now allows the Guinean national team and clubs taking part in inter-club competitions to host their opponents in Conakry. A technical review involving the parties involved in the project and the head of CAF’s infrastructure department was held on 28 September, three days before the national team returned to the 28 September Stadium.
