Two people suspected of contracting Ebola virus disease in Nigeria’s Adamawa State tested negative after two rounds of tests. They had been isolated in Yola, while the country’s only confirmed case was then in the Federal Capital Territory, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
The two suspected cases of Ebola virus disease reported in Yola, in Nigeria’s Adamawa State, tested negative after two rounds of laboratory tests, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) announced. The two people will therefore not be included in the confirmed infection figures, according to NCDC Director-General Jide Idris, quoted by Vanguard.
The patients had been isolated after developing symptoms suggestive of the disease, while health authorities launched an investigation and response measures. The NCDC said the only confirmed case in Nigeria remained the one recorded in the Federal Capital Territory, in Abuja, in a traveller who arrived from Uganda, according to Jide Idris.
The results follow the isolation of the two suspected cases in north-east Nigeria, reported on 31 October. Health authorities had strengthened isolation measures in Nigerian hospitals on 30 October as part of the response to the confirmed case in Abuja.
