The Caisse des dépôts et consignations has given the Senegalese League Against Cancer a thermoablation device capable of treating a precancerous cervical lesion in 30 seconds. LISCA is also calling for mammography machines in health districts to improve breast cancer screening, according to Seneweb.

The Caisse des dépôts et consignations du Sénégal handed the Senegalese League Against Cancer a thermoablation device capable of treating a precancerous lesion of the cervix in 30 seconds, according to Seneweb. The donation was made on Friday 30 October at an event organised as part of Pink October.

The League’s president, Dr Fatma Guenoune, said the equipment would enable some patients who had been screened to receive immediate treatment. She also called for hospitals and health districts to be equipped with mammography machines to detect small lesions, as well as equipment to screen for and treat precancerous cervical lesions.

Ndeye Aïcha, president of the Caisse des dépôts’ women’s association, said her organisation had chosen this year to fund medical equipment, after supporting previous campaigns with financial contributions. She encouraged women to make screening and breast self-examination part of their prevention habits.

The Caisse’s acting director-general, Amadou Lamine Guissé, announced that the partnership with the League would continue, along with future initiatives with community and civil society organisations. The donation follows screening operations organised during Pink October, including 750 women seen in Dakar on 26 October.
