Held on 31 October as part of Soldier’s Week and Pink October, the march brought together military personnel and civilians, according to Africaguinee.
The Guinean army organised a civil-military march in Conakry on Saturday 31 October dedicated to raising awareness of breast and cervical cancer. Representatives of the defence and security forces and civilians walked from the forecourt of the 28 September Stadium to Conakry Urban Park, according to Africaguinée.
The chief of the general staff of the armed forces, General Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, described the initiative as an act of solidarity linked to the Pink October campaign. The director of Information and Public Relations of the armed forces, Ansoumane Toumany Camara, said that Soldier’s Week also included sanitation operations, free medical consultations and awareness sessions on breast cancer in barracks and garrisons.
Soldier’s Week is due to end on Sunday 1 November, the 68th anniversary of the creation of the Guinean armed forces, with a concert at Camp Samory. The Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Kaïté Sall, welcomed the mobilisation, which combines the health campaign with the week dedicated to the armed forces.
