Guinea’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation has suspended the acting governor of Siguiri, several prefects and numerous sub-prefects. Secretaries-general and deputy sub-prefects are temporarily managing the administrations concerned, according to the ministerial decision.

Guinea’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation has suspended the acting governor of the Siguiri region, Colonel Fadjimbra Mara, as well as several prefects and sub-prefects in the region. The decision was reported by Mosaiqueguinee.

The acting prefects of Doko, Djalakoro, Kintinian and Siguirini are among those affected. During the suspension, the secretary-general of Siguiri prefecture will manage the region’s day-to-day affairs. In the prefectures, this task will fall to the secretaries-general of the relevant communes, while deputy sub-prefects will administer the sub-prefectures.

The ministry says that alleged acts by the suspended officials that could constitute criminal offences are to be referred to the competent courts. The decision notes that legal proceedings may follow in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.

The suspensions follow Guinea’s decision on 29 October to halt artisanal gold mining in Siguiri. The government had also appointed acting prefects in several prefectures on 1 October, including in Siguiri, according to headlines published by our news service.
