Alpha Gassim Barry, acting secretary-general of the Professional Education Trade Union Federation, reaffirmed the union’s campaign on 31 October in Conakry to secure the signing of the special Education statute. He also cited demands concerning allowances, frozen salaries and the regularisation of 99 teachers during a belated celebration of World Teachers’ Day, Mosaiqueguinee reports.
The Professional Education Trade Union Federation (FSPE) is calling for the signing of the special Education statute and the settlement of several salary and administrative claims. Its acting secretary-general, Alpha Gassim Barry, reiterated the demand on Saturday 31 October 2026 before teachers gathered at the Labour Exchange in Conakry for a belated celebration of World Teachers’ Day.
The FSPE is also seeking role-based allowances for Education officials, the release of frozen salaries, the regularisation of 99 teachers at Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry and General Lansana Conté University of Sonfonia, and payment of four increments and nine months of arrears to local civil servants. It is also demanding the 2024 documentation allowance and the regularisation of Conakry’s contract teachers, according to Alpha Gassim Barry.
The federation intends to continue implementing the agreement signed on 3 January 2026. Its action follows the recruitment of 4,304 contract teachers into the local civil service, described by its acting secretary-general as an initial result.
The mobilisation follows earlier demands over pay and allowances raised by the education union on 4 October, and a call to integrate Conakry’s contract teachers, who had boycotted classes, on 14 October. On 24 October, Guinea published the final results of the recruitment competition for 6,000 teachers.
