Sierra Leonean organisation Justice Reform Initiative-SL is giving the West African Examinations Council and the Education Ministry 21 days to publish the withheld 2026 WASSCE results. It is threatening legal action, saying the withholding of thousands of results is harming students and their families, according to its statement.

The rights and judicial reform organisation Justice Reform Initiative-SL (JRI-SL) is giving the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education 21 days to release the withheld results of the 2026 WASSCE. In a statement dated 30 October, it threatened legal action if the results of the students concerned are not published, according to Sierra Loaded.

JRI-SL is calling for an urgent and transparent procedure to examine the 13 categories of alleged offences. It wants the results of candidates against whom no direct evidence of cheating has been established to be published without delay, and for the authorities also to investigate the possible role of centre officials, schools, supervisors and invigilators.

The organisation believes that withholding the results collectively could jeopardise university admissions and increase financial and emotional pressure on families. It is also calling for a public timetable for the investigations and a national dialogue on the recurring difficulties students face in English, a subject required for admission to universities.

The ultimatum follows the decision to withhold the results of 47,454 WASSCE candidates, published on 27 October.
