Hillary Sao Kanu, regional commander of the Sierra Leone Police in the North West, donated 200 bags of cement from her personal funds to build a permanent headquarters in Port Loko. Block-making began on Tuesday 27 October, with local residents taking part in community work, Sierraloaded reports.
Sand, granite and stone dust were also mobilised for the construction. The foundation stone is expected to be laid in early November, and the regional command is expected to move into the building in December 2026.
Hillary Sao Kanu has taken forward a temporary headquarters project launched by her predecessor, Joseph Ibrahim Lahai. With the support of Inspector-General of Police William Fayia Sellu, she has mobilised resources to complete the building and encouraged motorcycle taxi drivers, young people and women to take part in the project.
