The Anambra State government in south-eastern Nigeria has closed Arrow of God Children’s Home, an orphanage in Nwelle Ezunaka, over inadequate services and unsatisfactory hygiene conditions. Eight children were rescued during the operation, the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), cited by P.M. News, reports.
The closure was ordered on Saturday during an inspection led by the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Child Protection, Esther Onyekesi. She said the facility, owned by former lieutenant-colonel Deborah Ogoo, did not meet the prescribed regulatory standards.
Esther Onyekesi said the state authorities would not allow any children’s home to compromise the safety, dignity and welfare of its residents.
