The Delta State government threatens to recommend sanctions against the company handling the Orere River bridge and the rehabilitation of the Edjekota–Ewu–Orere road. Works Commissioner Reuben Izeze criticised the slow progress after an inspection in Ughelli South, according to Punch.
The government of Delta State in southern Nigeria has threatened to recommend sanctions against the company responsible for the Orere River bridge and the rehabilitation of the Edjekota–Ewu–Orere road, because of the work’s perceived slow pace. Public Works Commissioner in charge of roads Reuben Izeze issued the warning on Friday during an inspection in Ughelli South, reports Punch.
Reuben Izeze reproached the company for failing to show sufficient commitment despite the support it had received from the state. He said the rainy season could no longer justify the delays and accused the contractor of bringing in workers mainly when ministry officials inspected the site. He asked the company’s representative to convey the government’s dissatisfaction to its management.
The commissioner said the state had supported the use of local companies in the construction sector, but insisted on compliance with the agreed deadlines and the quality of the works. He described the activity observed at the sites during official visits as a “staged performance”.
