Comorian associations stepped up breast cancer screening and awareness activities across the archipelago’s four islands during Pink October, with reduced prices for examinations, reports Masiwa. Activities were held in villages, including demonstrations, fitness sessions and a basketball match between women from Mutsamudu and Ouani.
In Anjouan, the Comorian Association Against Breast Cancer in Women (ACCF) organised a Pink March, a fitness session and a sporting event, followed by a discussion dinner and a gala evening planned for the last Saturday of the month, according to its head, Fanaza Badrane. She explained that the number of cases remains difficult to assess because many women hide their illness, which is still considered taboo.
Patients from Anjouan often have to travel abroad for treatment because the Comoros has no centre specialising in women’s cancers. Fanaza Badrane said examinations remain costly under normal circumstances, but that the ACCF supports women who cannot afford them.
These activities form part of the same effort as the cancer screening caravan in Gbolouville, organised and reported on 3 November 2026.
