Mamadi Sacko, a 26-year-old Guinean mechanic, died on Saturday 31 October after two motorbikes collided in Siguiri, north-eastern Guinea. He was thrown onto the road and hit by a tanker truck before being admitted to the emergency department, then died from multiple injuries at about 10pm, Lieutenant Doctor Abdoulaye Bassirou Condé, a doctor supporting Siguiri’s medical and surgical emergency department, told VisionGuinee.
The second motorcyclist was slightly injured. Mamadi Sacko was due to be transferred to the trauma unit in Kankan, but his transfer was delayed after his vital signs deteriorated, according to the doctor. The tanker truck, which was allegedly travelling at high speed, did not stop after running over the mechanic’s lower limbs, according to the account reported by the practitioner.
The accident occurred two days after an armed clash that injured six people in Siguiri, on 29 October. The prefecture had also been the scene of a collision between a motorbike and a lorry that killed two people in Mamou on 4 October, according to the previous report.
