The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention identified 62 contacts linked to the confirmed Ebola case, whose monitoring is due to end between 31 October and 13 November 2026. Seventeen of the 18 samples analysed were negative, according to the Nigerian agency's update.
Nigeria recorded 17 negative results from 18 samples tested as part of its response to a confirmed case of Ebola virus disease, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the federal agency responsible for epidemiological surveillance, announced. The negative results concern 15 contacts of the index case and two suspected cases.
The NCDC is monitoring 62 contacts linked to the confirmed case, with monitoring for the last of them due to end on 13 November 2026. The agency has strengthened the response by training new monitoring officers, reviewing case definitions and updating tracing, self-quarantine and care protocols.
Laboratory confirmation of the index case, a 42-year-old woman born in Uganda and the wife of a Swiss diplomat, was announced on 20 October. Phylogenetic sequencing has since been carried out by the NCDC's national reference laboratory with the African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases, according to the NCDC.
These results form part of the monitoring of the 62 contacts linked to the Ebola case, whose monitoring is due to end on 13 November.
