A drone attack attributed to suspected ISWAP fighters killed two soldiers and wounded 13 others at a military position in Kukawa, Borno State, Nigeria, at about 6.14pm on Saturday, according to security sources cited by Leadership. The victims belonged to the 101 Battalion, deployed near Gudumbali Gate and at other positions in the area.
A security source said that men suspected of belonging to the group had been spotted near Gudumbali Gate before disappearing shortly before the explosion. Another said the attackers had sent fighters to gather intelligence on the position before launching the drone remotely.
The attack occurred shortly after a delegation from the Borno State Government, including the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, visited the area. It came a day after Nigerian army operations against ISWAP in Borno, including the killing of several group leaders, announced on 1 November.
