South Africa deported 490 Mozambican nationals on Saturday for staying in the country illegally, before they were received by the migration services of Maputo province. The authorities registered them and referred them to their regions of origin, while reminding them that working in South Africa requires a work visa, according to spokesperson Carmen Mazenga, quoted by Domingo.
South Africa deported 490 Mozambican nationals for staying in the country illegally on Saturday 31 October. They were received by the Maputo Provincial Directorate of Migration, which oversaw their screening, registration and referral, reports Domingo, as cited by Club of Mozambique.
The operation involved the National Migration Service, the National Criminal Investigation Service, Mozambique’s Ministry of Health, the border police and the Police of the Republic of Mozambique. Those returned were advised to go back to their regions of origin and apply for an ordinary passport through the migration services.
Carmen Mazenga, spokesperson for the Maputo Provincial Directorate of Migration, said that a tourist visa and the visa exemption between Mozambique and South Africa did not authorise people to work there. Mozambicans wishing to work abroad must obtain a work visa from embassies, she said.
