Mozambique’s First Lady, Gueta Chapo, has called for funds and partners to help restore the oncology department at Maputo Central Hospital, which was damaged by a fire. During a visit to the hospital, she stressed the department’s essential role for cancer patients, as the country lacks specialist facilities, the Mozambique News Agency reports.
Mozambique’s First Lady, Gueta Chapo, on 1 November called on citizens, partners and friends of the country to help rebuild the oncology department at Maputo Central Hospital. The department was partially destroyed by a fire, the Mozambique News Agency (AIM) reported.
During a visit to the hospital, Gueta Chapo described the damage as a significant loss for a health system that already lacks specialised cancer treatment facilities. She asked the public and private sectors, in Mozambique and abroad, to help restore the damaged facilities.
The appeal follows a fire that struck the oncology department at Maputo Central Hospital on 1 November. On the same day, Mozambique also announced plans to restore oncology services after the fire.
