Sidney Hill, a father from Pinetown, South Africa, shielded his daughter with his body before returning fire at men trying to steal his vehicle. One suspect was fatally wounded and another arrested the next day, according to KwaZulu-Natal police cited by IOL.

A father shot dead one of two men who tried to hijack his vehicle in Pinetown, in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, this week. Sidney Hill, 52, returned fire while he was in his vehicle with his daughter, while his son was near the gate of their home, IOL reports.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Paul Magwaza, one of the suspects shot at Hill, who returned fire and fatally wounded him. The following day, police arrested a 35-year-old man in KwaDabeka. He faces charges of attempted hijacking, attempted murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence. Police found an unauthorised firearm and 14 rounds of ammunition on him.

Hill, who runs a private security company, suffered minor injuries from bullet fragments to his arms and knee. He said his two children were traumatised and no longer wanted to leave the house. He is considering moving after the attack.
