Tanzanian police have arrested Lameck Isack, a former Form Four student, after David Lucas was stabbed in Mhama, in Bukombe District. The two young men reportedly argued over a relationship with the same secondary schoolgirl; police are provisionally attributing the killing to romantic jealousy, according to commander Safia Jongo.
Police in Tanzania’s Geita Region have arrested and are questioning Lameck Isack, who is suspected of killing David Lucas, another secondary school student, during a dispute linked to a romantic relationship. The incident took place on Thursday 29 October in the village of Mhama, in Bukombe District, according to regional police commander Safia Jongo, quoted by Mwananchi.
The two young men, who had recently graduated from Said Nkumba Secondary School, reportedly argued after each claimed to be in a relationship with the same young woman. Lameck Isack allegedly struck David Lucas in the neck and right side with a sharp object, and he died shortly afterwards. Police handed the body to the family after an examination and are continuing their investigation in preparation for bringing the suspect before the courts.
Safia Jongo urged parents and guardians to strengthen their supervision of young people, including by monitoring their children’s associates. Tanzanian police statistics published by the National Bureau of Statistics report 936 homicides between January and June 2026, compared with 926 during the same period in 2025, an increase of 1.1%.
