Tanzanian police have arrested five suspects in two separate murder cases in Muheza and Handeni, in Tanga Region. One man is suspected of killing his partner, while four others are linked to the death of a resident, according to Regional Commander Almachius Muchunguzi, quoted by Daily News.

Police in Tanzania’s Tanga Region, in the north-east of the country, have arrested five suspects after two alleged murders were reported in the districts of Muheza and Handeni, the Tanzanian newspaper Daily News reports. Regional Police Commander Almachius Muchunguzi said the investigations concern incidents reported on 23 September and 21 October 2026.

In Muheza, Mbaraka Mkomwa, 28, is suspected of killing his girlfriend, Jennifer Kipingu. Her body was found on 23 September in a ravine near the Mission River, in Mlingano ward. Police cite jealousy as the suspected motive.

In Handeni District, four suspects were arrested on 22 October in Kwedigasu, following the alleged murder of Athumani Saidi, reported the previous day. The operation was carried out by police with the help of residents familiar with the area.

The five suspects remain in custody while investigations continue and are to be brought before a court once they are complete, Muchunguzi said. He called on residents to settle their disputes peacefully and pass on to police any information about crimes or suspicious activities.
