Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja is asking officials in her administration why Bududa landslide survivors have not received the 10 million shillings promised for their resettlement. The funds are said to have been available since 2023, while the government prepares new aid of 18 million shillings for the most at-risk households, Nile Post reports.
Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has asked why survivors of the Bududa landslides have still not received the 10 million shillings promised for their resettlement. The issue was raised during a verification exercise for beneficiaries ahead of a new 18 million shilling grant to the most at-risk households in the Bugisu sub-region, Nile Post reports.
Residents said they had received land in Girigi, Kween District, but not the financial support intended to build their homes. Others said they had been left off the resettlement lists. Nabbanja, who had advised some residents to leave the threatened slopes, questioned officials from the Office of the Prime Minister about the discrepancies.
In Namarango, Bubiita sub-county, the prime minister recalled that a landslide had killed four people after an earlier visit to the area. The government is meanwhile preparing to pay 18 million shillings to households considered most vulnerable.
The verification follows the announcement of 18 million shillings for households resettled in Bugisu, published on 20 October.
