Guinean army reaffirms loyalty to Mamadi Doumbouya

The Guinean army reaffirmed its loyalty to President Mamadi Doumbouya during celebrations marking the 68th anniversary of its creation in Conakry. The chief of staff renewed the commitment on behalf of senior military officials, while the deputy defence minister called for reforms to continue, according to the Presidency’s Directorate of Communication and Information.

The Guinean army reaffirmed its “unwavering loyalty” to President Mamadi Doumbouya, a general and head of state, at a ceremony held on Sunday, 1 November 2026, at the Mohammed V Palace in Conakry. The Presidency’s Directorate of Communication and Information announced the statement, delivered by the chief of the general staff on behalf of senior military officials.

The ceremony marked the 68th anniversary of the creation of the Guinean army. On behalf of the president, Deputy Minister for National Defence General Ibrahima Kalil Condé, a second-section general, urged the military to continue the reforms under way and accelerate the development of the armed forces.

The reaffirmation comes as the Guinean armed forces are central to Mamadi Doumbouya’s political authority. He came to power in a coup in 2021. On 2 October, the head of state took part in Guinea’s independence commemorations, according to a tribute by Mamadi Doumbouya to Guinea’s independence.
