Former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara has called on Nigerians to believe in their country and unite their efforts to contribute to its development. He was speaking on Saturday at the 16th graduation ceremony of Achievers University in Owo, Ondo State, according to Punch.

Also the university’s chancellor, Yakubu Dogara urged graduates, particularly young people, to put their skills and knowledge at the service of national development. He said a secure, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria remained a shared goal amid insecurity, economic difficulties and youth unemployment.

His address, entitled ‘Rethinking national security for sustainable peace, development and national renewal’, also called for stronger institutions and greater citizen participation. Dogara said visionary leadership, strong institutions and patriotic citizens could enable the country to overcome its difficulties.

The position comes after Yakubu Dogara’s statements on the longstanding causes of insecurity in Nigeria, published on 31 October.
