Burkina Faso is mobilising around 100 buses to repatriate its nationals expelled from Guinea, half of which are already on their way, according to Mali Actu. Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, and Minister of Solidarity, Passowendé Pélagie Kabré, coordinated support with their Malian counterparts in Bamako.
The Malian authorities and the Burkina Faso embassy organised emergency assistance in the capital and along the border. Reception facilities are operational in Burkina Faso to support the reintegration of those repatriated. Mahamadou Sana criticised the Guinean authorities’ lack of prior consultation and described the conditions of the expulsions as “cruel, inhuman and degrading”. He also reported injuries, some caused by gunfire, according to Mali Actu.
The operation expands the resources deployed after the announcement of arrangements for the return of thousands of nationals expelled from Guinea, published on 4 November. On 5 November, Burkina Faso also said it had not been informed of the expulsions, according to the Burkina Faso government’s statements.
