In Ouagadougou, a national consultation of the RISE Dialogue initiative is bringing together public institutions, civil society, customary and religious authorities, as well as women, young people, academics and rural representatives for two days to discuss peace and social cohesion in Burkina Faso, Lefaso.net reports. The meeting is organised by the Gorée Institute, a West African organisation committed to conflict prevention.
The discussions focus on factors causing tension, local peace initiatives and ways to strengthen communities’ resilience over the long term. The regional project covers six countries: Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Mauritania, Chad and Senegal. At the opening, Bruno Zidouemba, Burkina Faso’s former ambassador to Senegal and a member of the Gorée Institute’s board of directors, called for the social, cultural and community resources already present in the territories to be used. Doudou Diène, executive director of the Gorée Institute, presented RISE Dialogue as a pilot project intended to build links between peace actors in the six countries.
