Burkina Faso’s National Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in Bobo-Dioulasso suspected of committing around ten motorcycle thefts since 2022. Investigators found eight vehicles reported stolen, as well as identity documents and moped papers, according to the Dafra District Police Station.

Burkina Faso’s National Police have arrested a 28-year-old apprentice bricklayer in Bobo-Dioulasso on suspicion of around ten motorcycle thefts and receiving stolen goods. The Dafra District Police Station also accuses him of money laundering and says eight two-wheeled vehicles reported stolen were seized.

Investigators also found five valid Burkinabè national identity cards (CNIBs), a moped registration plate and a moped registration document. According to the Dafra Police Station, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the night and residents’ sleep to steal the motorcycles, then transported most of them to his home village, where he was arrested with the help of Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP).

Police say the man, who lives in sector No. 33 of Bobo-Dioulasso, allegedly operated alone from 2022. He had previously been held at Bobo-Dioulasso Prison in 2022 for theft. The authorities advise residents to park their motorcycles indoors, secure them and lock their homes.
